Why Money matters
Money Grinding is a way of life. Money in, money out, money saved, money spent, money blown, money lost (not necessarily the same thing). Over the last 20+ years I have learned a lot about money some things the hard way and somethings the ease way. I think one of my first lessons came years ago I was a young Airman (enlisted in the Air Force) a 20 year old married with two children making something like 12K per year we were always broke. I had housing on base which gave you the sense you weren’t poor and in many ways we weren’t we had shelter and food and somewhat transportation and we had the hopes of some day getting another stripe on that uniform I am very proud to have worn. Another stripe meant a few more bucks per month. After all was said and done we had less money every month coming in then we had going out what a sick hopeless feeling. 10K in debt between credit cards, and auto loans for a used car that didn’t run so hot it felt like an insurmountable amount of money. This stirred up in me my first big money lesson all the way back in 1993. I HATE BEING BROKE it sucks it causes stress on me and my family I have to find a way to make more money but how?
I took a leap of faith and a leap into an opportunity into the world of commission sales. I had found my home the earnings were limitless the competition was challenging and there was a real methods and work habits you could practice to become a top performer. I went from 12K to 100K in a matter of a few years it was a very exciting time. Unfortunately during those boom years I read and learned everything I could to be a better sales person to earn more but did very little learning and planning on how to save and grow what I earned. It took me many more years of spending, making bad investment decisions, buying crap I didn’t need, the list goes on and on. I did eventually learn the secretes of money and why money is a gift towards freedom that should be used instead of letting it use us. Money is about FREEDOM I want complete freedom or as much as is possible in this world and the more money is working for you and the less you need to spend the more freedom you will have to make choices and decisions not solely based on money.
In this Blog i hope to focus on a few simple but hard to master concepts.
- Making more money while spending less (I call this the sweet spot) I’m a sales guy I work as 1099 independent from the company I sell for that means I get nothing from the company except a portion of the profits (a much bigger portion since I’m not an employee) so ill be talking a lot about sales and documenting what selling looks like day to day. This is this best way I know to make more money.
- Managing all that stupid debt we’ve compiled over the last 5,10, or 20+ years and how to get rid of it all. (today I have zero debt besides a small mortgage which will be gone in the next 12 months or so all this with one income while we are raising 9 kids it is possible!)
- Investing money once we’ve gotten to the point of cash flow positive I hope in this section to really get the ear of as many young people as possible. It took me to my mid to late 30’s to really figure this stuff out if you can get it right in your late teens and early 20’s your money grinding freedom will come early and fast!! (15% is minimum we want to get to here then working our way up 30 and 50+% this happens by hitting step 1 and 2 Making more while reducing debt “The Sweet Spot”
- The difference between the Love of money the use of money. I don’t love money but I do love to use it as tool not to need it. So many people I know are slaves to earning money at a certain level. many of these are well intention people I know from church. they are genuine devote people who have been misguided on there relationship with money. The general point here that I will get into more detail in future Blogs is I believe we can live free from moneys grip only after we have mastered it NOT after it has gotten us mortgaged to the hilt with multiple student loans, car payments, credit card bills and crap we didn’t need then after we put our selves in that spot we try and have the attitude like I trust in the Lord for my needs I don’t worry about money and then miss quote some scripture to justify the mess your in. If we learn to master money and teach our kids to do the same when they are young then we can live free not worrying day to day about what we will eat or where will sleep we will be Free. But don’t worry if your in a mess now (I sure as heck was) there is light at the end of the tunnel and we can get there together!!
Ill finish on this note: I tell my kids there is no doubt life will be filled with many struggles but Money doesn’t have to be one of them!
